The 2025 CIC AACN Critical Care Bowl was held last evening on September 8, 2025, at Franciscan Health! This Jeopardy-style event featured teams from local hospitals to test their critical care knowledge. This competition was organized by the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) board members and others with past experience with this event. This event was last held in 2019! We are so excited to bring this popular event back post-pandemic!

Several critical care nurses from different local hospitals came together to compete in a game that not only served as a valuable review for those preparing for the CCRN certification exam, but also created an environment of networking,  engagement and fun!

At registration, everyone received a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize! National AACN and  CIC AACN materials were provided at a large table to promote membership and education about AACN HWE standards, etc.

There were also many freebies provided, along with swag bags, from our community partners, vendors, and individual contributers!

The food was graciously donated by Franciscan Health, also sponsor of this venue, for the evening’s event! Many thanks to Dr. Melissa Lowder and others at your facility for making this evening possible!

The charity for the 2025 Critical Care Bowl hosted by the Central Indiana Chapter was Arlington Woods Elementary School. We were able to collect a large amount of school supplies, as well as $370 in monetary donation for school!  Thanks to everyone who generously donated!  A big thanks to Clara Monroe for setting up the charity for the evening and being our raffle announcer!  Those individuals who chose to donate received an extra raffle ticket for a chance to win a door prize.  A shout out to everyone who donated a basket or other item for the raffle! We had some wonderful prizes!

The evening started with an introduction from Stephanie Hughes, our current CIC AACN Board of Directors president!

The guest speaker for the evening was the wonderful  Rebekah Marsh, BSN, RN, CCRN, who is the new national president of Board of Directors AACN! Her inspiring 2025-2026 presidential theme for AACN is "On Purpose," which she presented at the National Teaching Institute (NTI). She provided our group with a brief introduction to this years theme via zoom and allowed time for a question and answer session!  Little did we know that she was a native Hoosier, hailing from a small town in Southern Indiana, with a background in fine arts!

Our wonderful DJ and gameshow host for the night was none other than Jamie Nagel Thomas, former CIC AACN chaper president, aka “Alexandra Trebek”! Thank you, Diane Smith, former past CIC AACN president for your expert IT support! Couldn’t have done it without you!

Our judges for the evening were Carmen Davis, Kim Hodge and Jan Powers! Thank you all for doing such a wonderful job! We appreciate you! Many of the CIC AACN board members, chapter members, and volunteers assisted in many different roles during the evening! Much gratitude to those people!

We had six official teams that competed! Those teams are as follows:

Team 1: “CVCC” (IUH, Methodist Hospital)  won Second Place!!!

Team 2: “Aorta be Famous” (Community Heart and Vascular)

Team 3: “The Gun & Knife Show”( Eskenazi)
